I'm off to Indonesia from Aug.3 to 15th with a group of people from Discovery Church. I'll be visiting our sister church, Alpha Omega, in Semarang, Java.
They are going to keep me busy! The first morning I'm there I'm leading/speaking at a three hour Worship seminar for local worship leaders and musicians. (I just found that out yesterday!) The itinerary continues with every moment of every day filled with opportunities to serve.
I'll be leading worship at a prison, an English language school, a youth service, one of Alpha Omega's Sunday services and on the streets of Semarang for "street kids". I'll also be visiting two orphanages, a water project and meeting with some of the people involved in our micro loan project. Then there is a wedding to attend that apparently is going to take up an entire day.
We've sent "You Hold It All Together", from the upcoming Worship for Kids CD, for translation. I'll be teaching it to the worship leaders/musicians, as well as the children. Craig and Jill, are you ready for the Indonesian language version of WFK?
We'll be flying to Bali for the wedding celebration and a couple days of R&R before returning to the states.
Please keep us in your prayers. As you probably know, Indonesia is the largest Muslim country in the world. The pastor of Alpha Omega and his family have been attacked and his wife lost her leg in a bombing of her car. But, God is in control and I will fear no evil for He is with me. I'm excited for the opportunity to serve and for the growth and new revelations of Himself that God will bring through this.
My five year old son is really struggling with the idea of Papa being away for so long. He keeps telling me that he is going to cry every day because he'll miss me so much. His name is Devin. Please pray for Gods peace with him ( and my wife Nina) while I am gone. I'll be very limited on my ability to communicate with them while I am gone. My wife doesn't do computers, and between the time difference and cell phone charges, calls will be limited.
When I was in Nashville laying down tracks for my CD, he was convinced that I didn't love him, was never coming home and that he didn't have a papa anymore. And that was only for one week! Unfortunately, he has also overheard some other individuals talking about some of the risks of the trip.
He has such a beautiful heart and hears God speak. I was explaining to him that five times through out the day there would be a Muslim prayer broadcast over loudspeakers across the city. (Those that have been there before have described the feeling of attack and oppression on your spirit during these times) I told him that when I heard the broadcast I would think about how much I love him and his mother and would say a prayer for them. He suggested that it might be a good idea to pray that the Muslim people would come to know God and know how much he loves them, each time I heard the prayers. I think I'll say both prayers.
Sorry this is so long. My heart is busting with many things! Most of all the proclamation that God is good and His love endures forever!
